We do this by effectively managing access to equipment, modifications and information services for disabled people and their whnau on behalf of Disability Support Services (DSS) Ministry of Social Development ( MSD ) and the Accident Compensation Corporation ( ACC ).
With our head office centrally located in Palmerston North, we deliver services to thousands of New Zealanders each year as Aotearoa's largest disability equipment provider. M tnei tranga mahi | About this role Were looking for an experienced and detail-oriented professional to join our Housing team as a Housing Advisor. As a Housing Advisor, youll help shape and oversee housing modifications that support disabled New Zealanders to live safely and independently.
You might be a quantity surveyor, builder, draftsman/designer, or an experienced construction project managerwhat matters most is your strong technical background, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. While this role is primarily desk-based, it does include some site visits and meetings with suppliers or service providers. Youll be managing your own caseload, so being confident working autonomously is essential.
At the same time, youll be part of a supportive team where sharing expertise and collaborating with professionals from a range of disciplines is highly valued. Were looking for someone who can assess, advise, and when needed, challenge decisions to ensure that all modifications are safe, suitable, and cost-effective. Your ability to apply practical construction knowledge with a problem-solving mindset will make a real difference in peoples lives.
Key skills and experience: Background in construction (QS, building, design, or project management). Excellent quality control and assessment skills. Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Comfortable attending occasional site visits and stakeholder meetings. Ng mahi haepapa | Role responsibilities Providing expert building-related advice to assessors, consultants, and contractors. Developing and overseeing quality assurance processes for building work.
Monitoring the performance, timeliness, and standards of contractors and consultants. Conducting audits and follow-ups to ensure all modifications meet compliance, safety, and functional requirements. Supporting internal teams with technical and regulatory knowledge on housing projects.
Contributing to the continuous improvement of systems and service delivery. While this role is based in Palmerston North, hybrid working will be considered for the right candidate within a 2-hour driving.
